The field was filled with familiar names, as the likes of Daniel Negreanu and Patrik Antonius elected to play in the event.
The presence of these superstar players, coupled with the marketing might of Pokerstars, helped swell the field size to nearly 2,000 entries.
After 15 years of the European Poker Tour, through all of the ups and downs that the game of poker has endured, this main event turned out to be the largest in the history of the European Poker Tour. That speaks not only to the continued popularity of poker, 15 years following the start of the online poker boom, but also to the continued domination of the Pokerstars brand.
