Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi has been riding high as of late. If he's not scorching the online poker tournament tables on Pokerstars and other sites, he is chopping the Irish Poker Open for second place money ($700,000 for those who are counting) and cashing for over $150k in the World Poker Tour Championships.

David Benyamine Poker PlayerAccording to Mizzi, he started playing high stakes games on Full Tilt Poker three days ago, and was up substantially until tonight. That is when he decided to take on high stakes poker master David Benyamine in two tables of heads up No Limit Action, at 300/600. It should be noted that Mizzi stated after the match that someone had bought a piece of his action.

It's a good thing he did, as according to my calculations, Mizzi lost over $220k to David Benyamine over various tables. In one big hand, Mizzi had bottom two pair against Benyamine's top pair, but Benyamine turned two pair to stack Mizzi. In the last hand of the night, Mizzi pushed all in with top pair against Benyamine's bottom two pair and didn't catch up.

All told, Mizzi took quite a beating. I have no doubt that Mizzi's bankroll is well over a million dollars (he is after all, a Canadian resident, and doesn't have to pay tax on his poker winnings; according to my calculations, he is up about a million over the last two months alone from poker), but tonight's beating couldn't have been fun for Mizzi.

It will be interesting to see whether or not Mizzi ventures back to the high limit tables or just decides to stick to tournaments now.
