2009 Aussie Millions $100k Tournament Gets Underway on Saturday
Published on January 16th, 2009 7:15 am ESTOne of the most ridiculous tournaments in the world will get underway at 2:15 pm local time on Saturday at the 2009 Aussie Millions (this works out to Friday night for people living in North America).
The fourth edition of the $100,000 AUD No Limit Hold'em will get underway at this time.
In case you were wondering, $100,000 Australian dollars works out to about $67,790 US dollars.
Imagine that - an entry fee of $67,790 just to play in what amount to a two-table SNG.
As you can imagine, this tournament attracts the richest poker players in the world.
Names that include Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer and Erick Lindgren.
The previous winners of this event include:
John Juanda (2006)
Erick Lindgren (2007)
Howard Lederer (2008)
The tournament had just 10 players when it ran in 2006. Since then, the tournament has increased in popularity - last year, the tournament had 25 entrants and a prize pool of $2.5 million dollars AUD. Howard Lederer took down the 2008 tournament and $1.25 million dollars AUD in the process.
The first day of play will take place on Saturday, and the final table will run on Sunday at 4 pm local time.
It will be interesting to see whether or not this tournament gets more entrants than last year, especially considering the global economic recession. I predict a field size of around 20 players.
