black and white world series of poker logo - wsopHarrah's released the schedule for the 2009 World Series of Poker a few days ago, and there were a number of interesting additions and deletions to the line-up.

There will be a total of 57 events this year, which will include 10 $10,000 "Championship" events. There will be no rebuy events this year, however there will be a "Triple Chance" No Limit Hold'em tournament on June 28th.

All in all, this schedule has a little something for everybody.

Players with smaller bankrolls will be happy to hear that there are two additional tournaments with buy-ins of less than $2500 this year. There will also be a "stimulus special" $1,000 No Limit Hold'em tournament that promises to have a prize pool of close to $5 million dollars.

Players with bigger bankrolls will be happy to see 10 $10,000 Championship events, as well as the $50k HORSE event and the $40k No Limit Hold'em event.

That's right - there is a $40,000 buy-in No Limit Hold'em tournament this year. This tournament is scheduled to begin on May 28th, with the winner being crowned on May 31st.

This tournament is going to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the World Series of Poker.

I am willing to wager that this tournament will be so popular that the World Series of Poker will keep it around next year. Many of the top pros lament at the fact that the World Series of Poker main event is too much of a crapshoot. I would bet that many pros will speak out and say that the $40k event is the "real" main event.

This should be a very well-attended and popular tournament. Kudos to the World Series of Poker for include this event in the schedule this year.
